The UK Government advises that the threat level from terrorism in mainland Britain for the UK is currently ‘Severe’.‘ Severe’ is the next level up from ‘Moderate’ and means that a terrorist attack is thought to be highly likely, according to the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) – an authority, comprised of representatives from 16 Government departments and agencies.
Previously, the risk of a terror attack is thought to have primarily been an issue for major cities. However, there is now every possibility that the risk has increased and become more geographically spread.
Despite the recent devastation caused by groups or individuals, many companies still remain exposed to major crisis and disruption to their business resulting from an act of terrorism. The perceived threat is a combination of injury to the public, severe damage to property and prolonged interruption risk. Each business, or organisation, needs to take a close look at its own level of risk. Even if not an intended target, it might still be in the vicinity of an attack and therefore suffer significant consequences.
